We feel that the wearing of uniform encourages the children to develop the right attitudes towards school and that it gives them the sense of belonging to Scarning Primary School. Care has been taken to enable parents to purchase clothing from stores of their own choice, but items with the school logo on (sweatshirts, fleeces and T-shirts) can only be ordered from the school supplier, Birds. Please see the Birds website: https://www.birdsofdereham.com/shop/category/schools-scarning-vc-primary-school-76/ for items to order and special offers that they may be running. Birds do stock items without our logo on, for example trousers and skirts; these are optional to purchase from Birds. A school book bag is also available. You are able to order uniform online and collect in store or have it delivered to your home address, alternatively you can go instore at Unit D 13 Yaxham Road Dereham which is located behind Halfords.

Hair should be of the child’s natural colour, not dyed or coloured. Excessive hair decorations, nail varnish, make up and tattoos are also not allowed.
Physical Education The children should come to school on the days they have PE in their PE kit. They will need plain navy or black shorts, a white T-shirt, plain navy or black jogging bottoms/sweatshirt and trainers. Plimsolls/indoor shoes should be in school every day for when the children have indoor PE. Gym and Dance are often completed bare foot. These should be kept in a small named bag on your child’s peg.
Long hair must be tied up on day of PE lesson – please ensure your child’s hair is either tied up before coming to school or provide a band for them to tie it up for PE. All jewellery must be removed. Stud earrings should be removed or taped up.
Swimming One-piece swimsuits or trunks and a towel are required for swimming lessons. These are to be brought to school on the day of the lesson in a named bag. Please note that for safety reasons swimming shorts and bikinis are not allowed. Dereham Leisure Centre will not allow children to swim with earrings in. Please ensure your child takes their earrings out on the day they are going swimming.
Lost Property Please could all articles of school clothing, especially school sweatshirts and fleeces, be named or marked clearly with your child’s name to prevent articles of clothing being lost. Our lost property box is located just inside the main doors that lead onto the playground. Parents are welcome to check this box at the end of the school day if their child has lost something At the end of each half term we will go through the lost property box, anything with a name will be returned to the right class, everything else will be donated to the clothing bank.
Jewellery in School Children with pierced ears should only wear stud style earrings. All earrings must be removed by pupils for all PE activities, as well as for swimming (this is a Dereham Leisure Centre requirement). No other jewellery is allowed.
The fundraisers also run a pre-loved uniform shop, this holds a wide range of clothing so please come in and have a look. Open daily at afternoon collection.
